Gear List and Other Tips
Make sure all of your ski gear is functioning properly before you travel.
Weather is variable. Please pack warm clothing and rainproof or waterproof outerwear. Sunscreen and swimsuits are also necessary for sunny days and dips in the hot springs. Remember that once cotton becomes wet it drains your body heat, so be sure to bring a couple of synthetic shirts that maintains their warmth when wet. Comfortable shoes are a welcome relief apres-ski as well as for touring the markets and other cultural attractions.
You should travel with 3 bags maximum: your pack, your ski bag, and a carry-on for the airplane that can also double as a daypack. Carry your ski boots on the plane. You can also use sweatshirts and other thick clothing to pack around your skis in the ski bag for protection -- remember not to use items that you will regret losing if the ski bag is misplaced.
In general, ATM cards are very handy to travel with these days and we highly recommend carrying one. If possible, bring an ATM card, cash, some travelers cheques and a credit card. Please note: In Chile, credit cards and travelers cheques are sometimes difficult to use, so an ATM card is useful for getting local currency. Due to recent economic conditions in Argentina, credit cards can be difficult to use, so an ATM card, cash and travelers cheques are recommended.
Important: Photocopy your passport and the numbers from your travelers cheques and leave them with a family member or friend who you can reach easily in case of an emergency. You should carry a copy of these documents with you as well.
Also, if you have a child traveling unaccompanied by you, keep a copy of the notarized papers for yourself and be sure your child has a copy (see Travel with Unaccompanied Minor Children for details on these documents). Your child and the Snofari Leader should also have a photocopy of your child’s passport and travelers cheques receipts.
